   Madelyn LaFollette

Madelyn is in her second season coaching at Kai Beach and previously coached at SandLegs Beach Volleyball Club for 4 years. She has also coached indoor club volleyball coach in the bay area. 


She is a graduate of the University of Oregon where she competed on the Division 1 Beach Volleyball for two years and as the 1’s pair her senior year. In her first two years of college, she attended University of San Francisco where she competed on the Division 1 Beach Volleyball team and was granted the Dante Benedetti Award her sophomore year at USF, an honor given to one female student-athlete who serve as an inspiration to their teammates through their unwavering sense of loyalty, self sacrifice, unselfishness, positive attitude and hard work. She was also named to the WCC All-Freshman Team her freshman year at USF.


During her youth, she played beach at SandLegs and indoor club volleyball for many years in the bay area. She also played varsity volleyball for four years at Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School in Alameda, CA.


Madelyn also completed her MBA at the University of Oregon with a specialization in sports business and currently resides in Danville.


She is looking forward to developing our youth on the beach!

  Genevieve Bane

Genevieve Bane is entering her second season coaching at Kai Beach. She is currently competing as a NCAA Division 1 athlete on the Saint Mary’s College indoor and beach volleyball teams. In her freshman season, she was named to the WCC All Freshman Team for Beach Volleyball. Making the transition from a middle blocker to outside hitter for indoor, Genevieve started all 26 matches her sophomore season and in her junior year, entered the season as a preseason All-WCC selectee, starting every set at outside hitter. She earned honorable mention All-WCC recognition at the culmination of the season. She finished second on the team with 257 kills and third with 30 service aces and 180 digs and saw three double-doubles on the season. Genevieve is working toward earning a B.S in Business Administration with an English Minor. 


She graduated from California High School in 2021 and was a 4 year varsity athlete. In 2018 she had the #1 hitting percentage in EBAL hitting a .344 as a sophomore. The next year she was named a league honorable mention when she helped California become EBAL Champions in 2019. Genevieve played club for NorCal VBC from 2015-2021. And earned a gold medal two years in a row at NCVA Championships in 2018 and 2019. 


She is excited to work with players out on the beach and share her love for the game!

  Taylor Trask

Taylor is entering her third season coaching at Kai Beach. She has helped several players over the past two years earn bids to AVP nationals and several medals at the CBVA tournaments in Santa Cruz.


Taylor discovered her love for competitive volleyball at the age of twelve. Since then she has accomplished many goals and tried just about every position from setter to middle. Taylor led her Red Rock volleyball team in 2016 to the Girls junior National Championships. She was also a 2 year Junior Varsity player at San Ramon Valley High school from 2017-2018.


After 5 years of indoor volleyball, Taylor decided to make the switch to play beach volleyball year round. She’s medaled in CBVA and BVNE tournaments, and has also competed at the AAU beach tournaments in Hermosa beach.


Taylor has a love for teaching and is an education major at her college, University of Nevada Reno. She continues to practice and coach both beach and indoor youth volleyball. Taylor’s main goal when coaching is to make sure everyone is having fun and growing as a player. At the end of the day it shouldn’t matter if you win or lose, because every game is a chance for improvement. 


Some fun facts about Taylor, she works at an escape room in San Ramon, some of her hobbies include recent upcycling jewelry, volunteering at elementary schools, and of course beach volleyball!

  Alexandra Cataldo

Alexandra (Allie) Cataldo is in her first season coaching with Kai Beach. She is a junior at Saint Mary’s College of California. She's pursuing a biology degree with a chemistry minor while also playing Division 1 beach volleyball for the college. Originally from Clayton Valley Charter High School, Alexandra played indoor and club volleyball throughout her high school years.


At college, she's made a smooth transition to beach volleyball, playing primarily in the threes and ones pair this season. Her highlight was competing in the ones pair at the WCC Championships, helping her team clinch third place in the conference. Alexandra's standout performance earned her the recognition of WCC Pair of the Week.


She is excited to dive into coaching this year with Kai Beach Volleyball Club. She's eager to share her love for the game and mentor aspiring players, bringing her experience and enthusiasm to the team

  Brianna Karsseboom

Brianna Karsseboom began coaching the Red Rock beach program in the summer of 2019 and is entering her third season coaching for Kai Beach. She also coaches indoor for the Red Rock 15-1 team in Danville/Walnut Creek. She is a Red Rock alumni and played for coaches Marietta Flynn and David Huan from 2011-2015. She coached at Five Starz Volleyball club from 2015-2019 for the 11s and 15s teams. One of Brianna’s main goals is to encourage young girls to believe in themselves and their abilities.


During her time as a player at Red Rock, she was the team captain and qualified for Junior Nationals every year in both the Open and National Divisions. Brianna led her 18-1 team to an 11th place finish with wins over the eventual gold medal winners. In 2013, she led her 16-1 team to a top 5 finish in the National Division, and was named to the National All-Tournament Team.


Brianna was born and raised in the Bay Area. She attended Bishop O’Dowd High School from 2011-2015, where she was a 4 year varsity player. As a senior, she hit 228 kills for a .390 average, earning her All-West Alameda County - Foothill League first-team honors for a third straight season. As a junior, she was First-team All-East Bay recipient, during which she hammered out 400 kills. She was also featured on the cover of Sports Starz Magazine.


After high school, Brianna continued her volleyball career at the University of California Davis. She joined their Division I NCAA indoor volleyball team in the summer of 2015 as an outside hitter and also played on the Division I beach team her senior season. She appeared in a total of 106 matches over the course of her four years. Some other career highlights include: Tournament MVP of UNLV Invitational (8/25-8/26), mostly due to 13-2-24 (.458) vs. Binghamton. Had 10 matches with double-digit kills, including season-high 17 at Cal State Fullerton (10/14). Finished preseason with 15-1-36 (.389) and 13 digs in three-set sweep of Houston Baptist (9/15) at UT Arlington Invitational, earning her a second all-tournament nod.


Off the court, Brianna was very focused on her academics. In 2019 she earned a B.S. in Managerial Economics, with a focus in Business Management. She landed a job right after college in the financial services field, where she utilized her skills/qualities from being a student athlete and applied them to a professional workplace. 


Brianna currently lives in Danville, where she is close to her family. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, golfing, and spending quality time with her family and friends.

 Shelby Santos

Shelby is currently on the Division 1 beach volleyball team at UC Davis and in her first season coaching with Kai Beach.


Santos played 4 years of indoor volleyball for the Carondelet Cougars, as well as 2 years for their beach volleyball team... She played a variety of positions for both indoor and beach teams including middle blocker, middle, and outside hitter... Her sophomore year the Cougars indoor team finished first in their section as well as their league... Her junior year the indoor team went on to finish first in their section and 3rd in the league, she received an East Bay Athletic All-League honor that season as well as beach volleyball team MVP...  Santos senior year boasted numerous accomplishments, she received another East Bay Athletic All-League honor, won Carondelet High School Athlete of the Year, and Volleyball MVP, this season she also had a .420 hitting average (5th in California)... She also received beach volleyball MVP her senior season.

  Jennifer Dorr

Jennifer Dorr is entering her second season coaching at Kai Beach. The former Associate Head Coach at Cal's Division I indoor volleyball program and was an award-winning standout setter at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. Jenn learned to play volleyball on the beach down in Laguna Beach as her parents were active mixed doubles partners. As a youth she achieved her AA rating and went on to play in CBVA tournaments. In 2013 she helped start the Cal Beach Program with then head coach, Rich Feller, where they helped Cal become part of the AVCA beach program and then eventually becoming a NCAA sport. She is currently coaching indoor at Red Rock Volleyball Club in the TriValley.

Dorr spent 4 seasons at Cal and in her previous three seasons, Dorr has directed the program's summer camps, overseeing and promoting the camps which draw about 400 players each summer.

Promoted to assistant coach in January of 2011, she was originally hired as Cal's Director of Operations on Feb. 5, 2009. In that role, she was responsible for planning team travel and maintaining the program's budget while serving as the team liaison with the academic, financial aid, and business offices. Dorr has also served as a co-head coach for the Golden Bear Volleyball Club 14-1 squad from 2009-10.

In April of both 2010 and 2011, Dorr worked the Junior National Team and High Performance Tryouts. Dorr was instrumental in the USA A2 team tryout in February 2011 as part of the statistical analysis team. Additionally, she served as an assistant coach and technical coordinator for the USA Junior National Team in July 2010 for the NORCECA Championships in Tijuana, Mexico, where the US team won Gold.

Prior to arriving at Cal, Dorr served as an assistant coach at Georgia Tech for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Dorr arrived at Georgia Tech by way of Texas A&M, where she was the director of volleyball operations from 2005-06. During her time in College Station, Texas, she also worked as the tournament director for the 2005 NCAA College Station Regional and other home tournaments for the Aggies. While living in College Station, Dorr served as the head coach of the Brazos Valley Volleyball Club from 2005-06 and led her squad to a 27-2 record over two seasons. Her coaching experience extends further as she held a post as head coach for the Saddleback Valley Volleyball Club in Lake Forest, Calif. where she guided the team to a 32-3 record from 2004-05.

In 1999, Dorr was the starting setter for the Rainbow Wahine as a freshman where she earned All-Western Athletic Conference second-team honors. She helped lead Hawai'i to a 29-2 record, an NCAA regional semifinal appearance and a No. 8 final AVCA ranking in her first season. In her four-year career, Dorr took the Rainbow Wahine to two NCAA national semifinal appearances, two No. 3 rankings, and a 123-12 record. She earned All-WAC second team honors three times and finished her career ranked fourth all-time for Hawai'i with 3,540 assists. Dorr was selected to the WAC All-Academic team in each of her four years with the Rainbow Wahine.

Dorr graduated from Hawai'i with a degree in business administration in marketing in 2003. She then worked as a sales and marketing executive for KHNL and K5 Television in Honolulu before leaving the islands to play professional volleyball in the fall of 2004 with Brandenburg VCO in Berlin, Germany.

Dorr resides in Danville, Calif. with her husband, John, a former All-American swimmer at Cal. The couple has twin daughters, Lily and Piper.

  Marietta Flynn Huan

Marietta is a founder and club director of Kai Beach Volleyball Club and Red Rock Volleyball Club. She enters her 6th year of coaching beach volleyball and 18th year of coaching indoor volleyball in California. Her beach and indoor teams have had success at the local and national levels. In Kai Beach's first two seasons in 2022 and 2023, Marietta coached players to earn bids to AVP nationals, several medals at the CBVA tournaments in Santa Cruz, and medal finishes at the Monterey Tournament. Many of Marietta's former players have gone on to compete at the collegiate level for beach including UCLA, Stanford, Cal Poly, San Jose St., LMU, Santa Clara, UC Davis, and Pacific.


This past season for indoor, Marietta coached the 14-1 team in Danville/Walnut Creek and finished top 5 in Northern California and qualified for the Girls' Junior National Championship in the National division in Chicago, a remarkable accomplishment in only the second year in. In the inaugural season for Danville/Walnut Creek, she coached the 14-1 team that finished in gold (top 12) in the Northern California region. As a head coach in Redwood City for 10+ years where Red Rock was first established, Marietta qualified all her teams (14s-18s) for Junior Nationals in the Open or National division. In past seasons, Marietta head coached the Red Rock 18-1 team that finished 1st in the Northern California region and had a terrific finish taking home the bronze medal at Junior Nationals. In the previous 2 seasons, she coached Red Rock 18-1 and both squads made very successful runs at Jr. Nationals with wins over the eventual gold medal winners and finishing 11th overall in the 18 open division. Some of Marietta's other past successes as a head coach include: multiple Open medal finishes at Triple Crown NIT, Far Western’s Qualifier, and Pacific Northwest Qualifier, winning the NCVA Regional Championship, top 3 finishes in the Northern California region each year, and a 5th place finish at Junior Nationals.


Marietta previously led the varsity program at St. Ignatius College Prep with her husband David from 2016-2018, taking over the program in 2016 finishing 3rd in State in the Open division and a 27th National Ranking with a team that in the previous year in 2015 was ranked 447th in the country.


Marietta was born and raised in Louisville, KY and New Albany, IN and the daughter of former professional basketball player, Mike Flynn. She won the Gold Medal at the 2000 USA Volleyball Junior Olympics playing for Kentucky Indiana Volleyball Academy (KIVA). She attended New Albany High School and was a four-year varsity volleyball player on her top 50 nationally-ranked team as an outside hitter. She led her team to a 28-3 record her senior year earning MVP in her league. In her graduating class of 700 students, she received the Overall Top Female Athlete Award and the Top Scholar-Athlete Award. 


Marietta took a leap of faith after graduating high school and drove across the country to California, supporting herself financially and fully paying her way at Santa Clara University while also being a student-athlete. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance and played libero during her collegiate career. She is now a finance leader in the biotech industry, a Certified Public Accountant, an entrepreneur and small business owner of Red Rock VBC, a volleyball coach, a loving wife, and the toughest job of all…a Mother. “Players often tell me they want to follow in my footsteps and to see them progress over the years on the court, in the classroom, in their professional careers, and in their personal life is the most rewarding aspect of my career. I want to continue to serve as an inspiration to all student-athletes.”

       

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, showering her two cats with endless love, and watching sports - Go Warriors!

 Hartley Barnett

Hartley played 4 years of indoor volleyball for the Monte Vista Mustangs, as well as 2 years for their beach volleyball team. During this time, she also competed with Kleos beach volleyball for six years. She played a variety of positions for both indoor and beach teams including middle blocker, middle, right side, and outside hitter. In her junior year, the Mustangs indoor team finished first in their section as well as in their league. Her senior year the indoor team went on to finish second in their section and 3rd in the league. In Hartley's senior year, the Mustang beach team was undefeated.


Hartley has been coaching volleyball for three years, and this is her first year with Kai Beach Volleyball Club. She's coached Next Level Volleyball for the last three years and brought her team to the finals every time. Hartley is super excited to meet and work with Kai players this season!


Currently, Hartley attends the University of Tennessee to study Supply Chain Management. Her hobbies include wakesurfing, watching movies, and of course, beach volleyball!

  Chanavy Mey

Chanavy Mey is in her first season coaching with Kai Beach. Chanavy is currently an indoor club coach at Red Rock Volleyball Club in Danville/Walnut Creek. She played indoor volleyball for 6 years and recently played beach volleyball for over 2 years. In beach she won first place in an NCVA beach volleyball tournament, placed 2nd in a Girls 18U AVP One Star Qualifier Event while earning a silver medal along with a bid to junior nationals, and placed 3rd for 18U Monterey Beach Open tournament.


In the past Chanavy has assisted the girls and boys indoor volleyball teams for middle school and was team manager for boys volleyball at Arroyo High School where she recently graduated. She attended Arroyo School from 2018-2022 and played volleyball all 4 years of high school.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, baking macarons and outdoor activities!
